There’s nothing better than upgrading the look and feel of your car. With the Dapper Lighting 7” Classic V1 Projector Headlight Kit, you will add an updated look to your frontend while drastically improving the overall safety while on the road. This kit includes everything you will need to dramatically increase the light output that comes with the dim and old H6024 sealed beam lights that were originally equipped.

There are two options for the Dapper Lighting 7” Classic V1 Headlight Kit, you can choose either the standard halogen bulb that comes with the kit, or you can opt for the optional upgraded 35w or 55w HID H1 5000/6000K bulbs. The kits offer FMVSS108 compliance and is legal to replace your outdated H6024 sealed beam units, the housings are also ISO:9001, E4 and SAE Compliant as well.

While the standard halogen bulb that is included with the kit are already an improvement over the old sealed beam units, the optional HID bulbs offer a vast improvement over even the halogen.

Installation is fairly straightforward. For this installation we used our own Revmatch 1966 Ford Mustang, but the installation should be similar across the board on any vehicle that uses a 7” headlight. If you are still running the original style sealed beam units, chances are you’ve replaced a burnt out bulb once or twice. The installation of the Dapper Projector units don’t differ from that procedure much.

On the Mustang, begin by removing the (4) screws holding the headlight door in place

Once the door is removed, you can now loosen the (3) screws that hold the headlight retaining ring in place and remove that ring. Secure the headlight when you do this, as it might fall out when the ring is removed.

Unplug the H4 connector from the back of the light, and set the headlight aside.

Halogen Bulb Installation:

Remove the Dapper Projector housing from the packaging and install the supplied H1 halogen bulb. Make note of the tab to insure the bulb is inserted correctly.

Connect the diode to the supplied Dapper wiring harness as shown in the instructions. Note that as per the troubleshooting section on the instructions, if your high beams do not activate after the kit is installed that you may need to reverse the diode in the harness. This is what we had to do on our Mustang.

Next plug the harness into the original H4 connector from the vehicles wiring harness.

Connect the high beam solenoid power wire to the harness.

DSC00032

Connect the power wire from the Dapper wiring harness to the terminal on the bulb, and plug the ground wire to the terminal on the housing. And slide the boot down onto the rear of the housing.

HID Bulb Installation:

If you’ve opted for the HID kit there are a few extra procedures to follow, but still very straightforward.

Remove the Dapper Projector housing from the packaging and install the supplied H1 HID bulb. Remove the bulb from the holder making sure not to touch the bulb itself. Any oil on the bulbs surface creates a hazard and may cause the bulb to fail and possibly explode in the housing and may cause injury. If you have accidently touched the bulb, be sure to clean the bulb with an alcohol wipe or a cloth with alcohol on it. Insert the bulb in the housing make note of the tab to insure the bulb is inserted correctly.

Connect the diode to the supplied Dapper wiring harness as shown in the instructions. Note that as per the troubleshooting section on the instructions, if your high beams do not activate after the kit is installed that you may need to reverse the diode in the harness. This is what we had to do on our Mustang.

Find a secure mounting location for the provided HID ballasts. Please note that there is no exact location to mount this, for the driver side we opted to mount it to the bracket for the windshield washer reservoir bag, however you may want a more secure location which may require drilling into your inner wheel well. For the passenger side (not shown) we opted to use the ground screw that is located across the front cross member near the battery.

You will need to connect the supplied HID relay harness to a power source, we used bolts located on the battery cables, however other vehicles may not have this. Consult your vehicles wiring diagram to find a source to connect to.

Run the relay harness across to the driver side HID ballast and zips tie it in place.

On the Dapper H4 headlight harness feed the two wires through to connect to the relay connector. Following the supplied Dapper instructions connect the wires to the relay connector and install the relay. Plug the relay harness into the HID Ballast.

Feed the wires coming out of the HID ballast back through the same hole the other wires are being fed to, and bring them out through the headlight housing bucket.

Connect those wires to the wires attached to the HID bulb.

Halogen and HID Bulb installation:

Tuck the wires behind the headlight housing bucket to insure they are out of the way when you go to install the headlights.

Make note of where it shows “Top” on the Dapper housing and point that toward the top of the vehicle. Also line up the tabs on the back of the housing with the indents on the housing bucket to insure the Dapper housing is aligned correctly.

Install the retaining ring to secure the Dapper housing in place and tighten the (3) screws holding it in place.

Check to make sure the headlights and high beams are functioning correctly before installing the headlight door. Follow the troubleshooting guide if there are any issues.

Repeat the procedures for the other side.

The whole installation should not take you very long and if you aren’t comfortable with doing the installation yourself, you can always find a local shop to handle the installation for you. In no time at all you will be enjoying the new look of your pride and joy as well as benefiting from the improvement in light output.
